that no figure is stated even today, although the cable makes matters
so urgent, and in view of what has gone beforek this offer only shows
again the people's desire to somehow acquire this business without
considering at all the interests of the people who put it trustingly
into their hands, only a few months ago.
I am of course taking steps to have this alleged Government
refusal as to port and cable facilities for my Company pat right at
once, as desired by the Texas Company; and I will call upon you either today or tomorrow and you can then tell me whether your Bank actually
declines to handle the "Tancred"
cargo,
so that I dan inform the Guaran-
ty Trust Company accordingly.
Happily, the cargo has not arrived, and all what would be neo- essary will be for your Hongkong friends to send the documents across to the International, and to transfer the leases of the godowns which are
in the name of your Bank, I believe (I have not looked this up yet)
most sorry and disheartened as I for one would be to have this done and thus age all my efforts to put this business your way nullified.
Of course, there must be no expense to my Company, of any des- cription, for causing and making this transfer of documents, aeeing that your Bank undertook this business and that it would retire from it by
your own wish.
